Turnip Carving Workshop

Turnip Carving Workshop: The Original Jack-o’-Lantern
Before pumpkins lit up porches, turnips were the true stars of Halloween! In Ireland and Scotland, people once carved spooky faces into turnips to ward off wandering spirits. Now you can try this old-world tradition for yourself at our Turnip Carving Workshop at the museum.

Join us for a hands-on session where you’ll learn the history behind the custom and create your very own eerie (or silly!) turnip lantern to take home. All supplies provided—just bring your creativity and a steady hand.

$10 – $15 members/non-members

Give pumpkins the night off and discover the root of Halloween fun!
