Internships
Are you a student interested in a hands-on learning experience? Join our internship program that supports a number of functions including program research and development opportunities. Our unpaid internship also gives you an opportunity to work with the Westport Museum’s extensive collections which include archives, objects, costumes, and art.
With this internship, you can expect 5-20 hours of work per week during the Summer (June-August), Fall (September-December) or Winter/Spring (February-May) period. Specific schedules are crafted with internship candidates upon acceptance to our internship program. Applications for our Fall 2025 Internship are due on August 1, 2025.

CONTRACT MUSUEM EDUCATORS
Under the direction of the Executive Director and Program Associate, the Museum Educator will be primarily responsible for the facilitation of engaging and educational programs at the institution.
This position is on a contract basis with hours dependent on the Museum’s programming schedule. Will include evening and weekend hours.
Tasks include:
- Leading educational programs which include, but are not limited to: author talks, historical walking tours, arts & crafts, escape room, field trips for local schools, foodways programming, and private tours and events
- Helping setup and breakdown event space
- Assisting in the development of new programming
- Communicating with community members and collaborators
- General museum maintenance
- Outreach to historically under resourced and underrepresented communities to facilitate their access to Museum programs and events
- Flexibility during Museum’s busiest season: September to December
Qualifications:
- Pursuing and/or graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor’s degree in history, museum studies, public history, education, or related field
- Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills
- Willingness to engage with the public on complex historical issues
- Commitment to a holistic understanding of history that includes the stories and experiences of historically marginalized groups
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft 360
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds
Salary:
- This position pays $16.35/hr with compensation for commuting commensurate with the state rate of $0.70/mile.
