WHS’ Benefit Dinner chef Chris Scott began his culinary career in Philadelphia were worked alongside notable chefs such as Al Paris, Michael Solomonov and with the STARR Restaurant Group as sous chef to Franklin Becker and Marcus Samuelsson. After honing his skills in Philly for 15 years, Chef Chris moved to New York City where he led as the Executive Chef for Time Warner and CNN. There he cooked for international dignitaries such as Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, South African President Nelson Mandela, as well as many actors, professional athletes and top media personalities.

In November 2010, Chef Chris opened Brooklyn Commune with his wife Eugenie developing socially responsible programs including kids cooking classes that benefited a local women’s shelter. Free monthly meals and healthy recipe sharing in underprivileged communities, and other local as well as international efforts. They were honored with the community leader award by CAMBA for their work in helping to raise up the community and are now partners with the Food Bank of NYC and their mission to eradicate hunger.

In April 2016 they opened Butterfunk Kitchen, a soul food restaurant that is heritage cooking at its finest. Chef Chris also competed on Season 15 of Bravo’s Top Chef and earned his place as a top four finalist, showcasing the food of his family’s migration from the south. In June 2018, Chris spearheaded a dinner at the James Beard House for Juneteenth Day, commemorating the date when slavery was finally abolished in all of the United States.

Keynote speaker, Alisyn Camerota is a journalist and anchor of CNN’s morning show “New Day.” In her almost three decades in journalism, Camerota has covered stories nationally and internationally, earning various awards, including two Emmy-award nominations for her breaking news reporting as well as a nomination for her CNN Special Report “Deadly Haze: Inside the Fraternity Crisis”. She was also recipient of The Edward R. Murrow Award for her interviews covering Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

Outside of her role on “New Day,” Camerota has anchored a number of network primetime specials, including “Tipping Point: Sexual Harassment in America” and “The Hunting Ground: Sexual Assault on Campus.” As a member of the National Advisory Council and National Leadership Council to The News Literacy Project and an Advisory Member of Press Forward, Alisyn is outspoken on fighting workplace harassment and First Amendment Rights.

Prior to joining CNN, Camerota worked for many years at the Fox News Channel, most notably as part of their morning show, Fox & Friends. Her first novel, Amanda Wakes Up, about an idealistic cable news anchor who tries to navigate through a minefield of ethical dilemmas during a crazy presidential race, was selected by National Public Radio as one of the best books of the year, and by Oprah Magazine as “a must read.” The paperback of Amanda Wakes Up was released on June 12th 2018.

Alisyn lives with her husband and three children in Connecticut.
