28th Annual Garden Celebration & Tour

June 8th and 9th, 10-4pm

Join us this year for a Garden Lovers Extravaganza featuring Peonies & Pollinators! The beloved Annual Garden Tour will have a new twist from year’s past with a full day of DIY classes and family fun events, including face painting, food trucks, and specialty cocktail party on Saturday. The tour of unique, hidden gardens in Westport and Weston will take place on Sunday 

Weekend packages as well as single day and single class tickets are available! 

On Saturday evening, June 8, a unique cocktail party featuring honey beer, made by Westport brewer TJ Elgin of Full Moon Brewers and a specialty peony vodka cocktail will be also held at the Society’s Avery Place headquarters.

Flower Arranging with Karen Legan (offered twice, 11 am & 2:30 pm): Wilton’s Karen Legan, acclaimed floral designer and founder of Lemon Dahlia will teach a flower arranging class centered around peonies and found greenery available in most local gardens. Karen’s floral designs have been featured in Connecticut Cottages & Gardens and at society events throughout New York and Fairfield County.  

Students are asked to bring a treasured container (Vase, bowl, coffee pot, tea pot etc.) to arrange a personalized and special arrangement Container should be no more than 8” high with a 4” opening and water tight. All other materials provided. $35 online, $40 day of

Flower Arranging with Sarah Shaw (offered twice, 1:15 pm & 3 pm): In the summer of 2018, Sarah Shaw joined Hedge, a garden inspired floral design studio based in Fairfield County. A former decorating editor and stylist at House Beautiful Magazine, Sarah received a professional certificate in Floral Design from Flower School NY. Sarah has travelled as a freelance floral designer in Connecticut and New York. 

Students will learn how to create a “Tussie Mussie”, a Victorian style small handheld bouquet that features both herbs and flowers. $35 online, $40 day of

DIY Pollinator Pots (offered at 10 am): Master Gardener Kathy Oberman Tracy from the Westport Garden Club will show you how to make an attractive planter that attracts bees, butterflies and other pollinators that are so essential to a bountiful garden. $10 online, $15 day of 

Face Painting & Ceramic Flower Pot Decorating for Kids, All-Day: Something to do for the little ones as you immerse yourself in DIY delights. Kids can decorate their own flower pots and use them to pot a small flower and get their faces painted too. $10 day of only

Plein Air Painting at WHS, Drop-in All-Day: Continue Westport’s long tradition as an artist’s haven by dropping in and painting the grounds of Wheeler House, the downtown headquarters of Westport Historical Society. Brief demonstrations and instruction by local artist Viorica Ghetu are available at 11 and 12:30. Free Event

Designing for Pollinators with Eva Chiamulera (offered at 12:30 pm): A successful landscape is one which is enjoyed not only by the people visiting your garden but also one that attracts a variety of butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators to create a dynamic space. A discussion on design considerations, plant selection and maintenance of gardening with pollinators in mind. Free Event

Tree Tour at Winslow Park, (offered at 12:30 pm at Winslow Park): Join Ben Sykas arborist from Care of Trees for an educational walk through historic Winslow Park. Meet at the park, learn about native and non-native trees of Westport and enjoy the outdoors! And don’t miss Care of Trees’ drawing for a tree, proceeds to benefit WHS.  Free Event

Bloom Bash

Saturday June 8th, 6-7:30 pm

What’s a garden celebration without a Garden Party? Join us as we toast our theme flower—the Peony!—and pollinators with a bespoke cocktail featuring peony vodka and hibiscus and honey beer, custom made for WHS by Full Moon Brewing. $25

Tour the Gardens! 

Sunday June 9th, 11-4 pm

From a unique property that hosted Hollywood’s elite, a classic New England estate, an apiary producing local honey to a charming retreat of a renown Westport Artist and an 18th Century Farmhouse re-imagined into a birder’s paradise, visitors will be charmed by each unique property on this year’s tour.  Make sure to stop in at our Pop-Up shop featuring whimsical gifts for the gardener and garden lover. $55 member, $65 non-member & $75 for all on day of event
