Discussions about and the treatment of mental health has changed dramatically over the past several hundred years. Institutions created for the treatment of the “insane” were called sanitariums, of which there were two in Westport.See objects from Westport Sanitarium, the original location of which was in Westport’s Winslow Park (colloquially called the “dog park”). You will also view items relating to the health and well-being of everyday Westporters, as well as hearing the story the coup of one mental institution in Westport.
