Be among the first to experience Westport Museum’s newest exhibit “Nell Dorr: Only Beauty Remains” exploring the career of the noted female photographer who once called Westport home.
Nell Dorr (1893-1988) was a gentle pioneer of the art of photography and a champion of the resilience of the human spirit. Her soft-focus images invite us into a gauzy, intimate, timeless microcosm and encourages us to stay there. Dorr distilled the precious from the prosaic and gave it a place of pride in her work. In her gaze, the everyday domestic tableau become sacrosanct. Throughout a life which knew great joy and turbulence, Dorr made the conscious decision to always return her artistic and emotional attention to that which she loved and, by so doing, made social commentary about her time.
