Westport Museum for History and Culture acknowledges that the experience of diverse communities in our area and in our nation have largely been under-represented or actively erased in the exploration of history and in the humanities. We believe that diversity and inclusion is foundational for institutional excellence and we actively seek out diverse experiences both internally among key stakeholders and externally among our partners. The Museum continues to vigorously forge alliances and partnerships that dismantle the barriers faced by BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) and LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning) communities toward participation in the study and practice of history, particularly in the museum and education fields. The Museum works to keep awareness of historical and social context and its impact on BIPOC and LGBTQ communities in its exhibits, programming, decision making, and leadership choices and takes a definitive anti-racist stance as part of its core mission.
