The Art of the Birdhouse exhibit opens at WHS
The Art of the Birdhouse exhibit opens in the Little Gallery at the Westport Historical Society, 25 Avery Place on March 18, 2009. Curated by Nina Bentley, Totney Benson and Jeannette Salfeety, it will feature a selection of eclectic birdhouses designed and built by artists whose work will be auctioned on April 3 at the Inn at Longshore.
“Each year I’m surprised by the creative genius of artists like Judy Henderson, John Waski, Helene Dworsky, Constance Kiermaier, Karen Silver Bloom, Miggs Burroughs, Drew Klotz, Judith Bacal, Stephanie Peterson, Mike Tewey, and Enid Munroe, said Totney Benson, one of the show’s curators, “This is the 14th Project Return Birdhouse Auction and the 145 birdhouses being auctioned are better than ever.”
Visitors to the exhibit are invited to enjoy Jeannette Salfeety’s on-going video of eight local artists at work creating their auction entries. Also on display is a birdhouse donated by Lisa Love of Love & Company, 68 Church Lane. Gallery visitors are invited to add their names to the exhibit’s raffle bowl. The lucky winner will be notified at the exhibit’s close on May 3. All proceeds from the 14th Birdhouse Auction will help support Project Return, a home for adolescent girls in crisis in Westport, Connecticut.
WHS Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 10 am-4 pm and Saturday from 12 noon-4 pm or call 203-227-8858 for additional information.
