Suzanne Sheridan sings Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen
Ms. Sheridan commented, For years I have been covering Joni’s songs in clubs and concerts and churches. The idea for this concert came to me as I was driving home after a recent church service where I had just sung Leonard Cohen’s song Anthem and was blown away by its power. I had just finished reading Girls Like Us and remembered that Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell had this passionate two-week affair and I thought to myself, I have to bring them back together and the only way I can do that is musically.In the book, Girls Like Us, author Sheila Weller offers this observation: Joni embarked upon a love affair with Leonard Cohen. Although their romance was short lived, its influence was amon the most important in her career. In fact, no brief relationship in Joni’s life produced as many songs – and so many of her better songs-as did her few weeks long romance with Cohen.
Joni Mitchell’s hits include Both Sides Now, Big Yellow Taxi, You Turn Me On, I’m a Radio and Chelsea Morning.
Cohen s discography includes, Suzanne, Anthem, Like a Bird on a Wire and Hallelujah. In addition to Fairfield County, Sheridan has performed this tributre concert in Canada and Australia. At HSBC, Sheridan will be joined by Bob Cooper on keyboards and Randy Brody on percussion.
