Supporting the Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Efforts

Origami Workshop

Join us for an afternoon of fun learning the art of origami folding. Fold animals, birds, and even Pikachu! Materials will be provided; donation to benefit the earthquake and tsunami victims of Japan. The workshop leaders will be wearing Yukatas (summer kimonos) while teaching  origami (ori -fold, gami-paper), a craft that Japanese children learn from an early age.
The most popular model is perhaps the crane, a bird that symbolizes long life and harmony. The crane is considered a sacred bird in Japan.  It is a Japanese custom that if a person folds 1,000 cranes, they would be granted one wish.  We will have a display of Senbazuru (1,000 cranes) in hopes of a quick recovery in the lives of the people affected by the earthquake and the tsunami of March 11, 2011.   We hope many of our friends will join us in our efforts to grant this wish.
