February Vacation Program, Ages 5-12

$175, Members $150,  203-222-1424 to reserve

Avoid cabin fever this winter and come to our winter break stay-cation program. The theme of the program is Birds, Banks, Books and Bears. We’ll feature activities in honor of our beloved President Theodore Roosevelt, an avid hunter who chose not to shoot a cub and that is how our favorite stuffed toy “teddy’s bear”  became a favorite of children and adults. We’ll talk about endangered animals and make teddy bears. Author Sophie Barnes will visit and share her newest children’s book about birdhouses and nests. Participants will use Sophie’s book as a springboard to write something of their own and make bird dioramas with a variety of materials that will replicate a nest, beach and bird eggs. Another project  focuses on the old fashioned but reliable way to save money- a piggy bank. Children will make their own banks  from scratch using milk bottles and  bank notes just like banks did over a hundred years ago. Elizabeth Devoll, Education Director will tell a great story about the first bank in Westport and how the clever bank robbers got away!

In addition to creating a variety of crafts, children will be preparing healthy snacks, playing games, enjoying yoga and singing songs. ” Our programs are about having fun while learning something cool about our town. I connect our town’s history with activities that make it meaningful for kids”, says Elizabeth.

Have children prepared to laugh and get messy! Call 203-222-1424 to reserve as spot. Limited enrollment.
