“The High School That Rocked!” is an award-winning documentary short that tells the story of how six legendary bands in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame all performed at Staples High School from 1966-68, creating indelible memories for local students. It won the Jury Award for Best Regional Documentary at the SENE Film, Music & Arts Festival in Rhode Island recently. The film will be shown at Westport Town Hall.
Native Westporter and 06880 blogger, Dan Woog will lead a talkback after the screening. The panel will include Casey Denton, the director (Staples ’14), Fred Cantor, the producer (Staples ’71), and Dick Sandhaus (Staples ’67 class president). Sandhaus came up with the idea for the rock concerts and was the organizer or co-organizer of all the major concerts at Staples through 1968. The talkback will be followed by a cocktail hour at the Westport Historical Society. This event is part of the #WestportRocksSummerFestival, in conjunction with the Westport Historical Society exhibit.
