WHS will celebrate Peace, Love & Understanding on Martin Luther King Day with a program on Jan. 18 for children ages 6- 11. This happening takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include baking, yoga and crafts. Make love beads, peace sign wreaths and folk art hearts.
Learn about civil rights from Jeff Miller, formerly of the Department of Justice in the Civil Rights Division.
A native New Yorker, Mr. Miller graduated from Brooklyn College and St Johns Law School. Moving to Washington, he was hired by the Department of Justice to enforce the first major Civil Rights legislation in the mid 1960’s. Field work included several years in Alabama and South Carolina. For many years he served as Assistant Director of the U.S. Civil Rights Commission. After retiring in 2010, he remained on the Attorney General’s Diversity Committee until moving to CT last year.
