Election Day Children’s Program

November 8th, 2016

10:00 am - 2:00 pm

WHS will have a fun-filled day of activities for children ages 6 to 11 to explore the meaning and importance of election day.  Led by Education Director, Nicole Carpenter, the day will include activities sure to stimulate and interest every child who attends!

Learn what inspired the Founding Fathers to design the flag and the meaning of the symbols and colors.  After we explore this historic milestone, we will design our own flags to represent either our family or our town, choosing colors and symbols that best represent what we want to convey.

View iconic paintings of historic events, such as “Washington Crossing the Delaware.”  After discussing and viewing each of the paintings, participants will form a tableau to recreate the scene.

The day continues with a mock election!  Children will be taught to understand the process of our election system as well as the qualities that make a good president and what responsibilities go along with the job of leading our country.

Children will also get to tour our historic home, explore the grounds, and bake and eat a traditional American sweet treat.  We will play games that were popular before the invention of television.

Join your friends for an exciting day of fun, learning and hands-on activities.  Please bring a bag lunch.
Cost: Members $45; non-members $55.  Please call to registration: 203-222-1424
