Artist’s Statement

“Most of the time I’m a painter,” says Susan, “but every once in a while I feel like doing something with wood collage. The ones being shown in this exhibit, have been done over a period of time, using scraps of wood, boxes, chess and toy pieces, wood molds or whatever I have in my hoard of ‘things’. I begin with a box that pieces can be glued into or onto. I have no preconceptions, as I usually do in my paintings, but I sort of fit the parts together by trial and error. Slowly the composition builds and the theme emerges.”
