The crisp fall weather provided the backdrop for a glorious afternoon of walking the historic Kings Highway District. Part of the Westport Historical Society’s fall “Destination Westport” tour series, the Kings Highway stroll took participants past an array of local historically significant sights.
Barbara and Allen Raymond, two notable Westport historians, described the historical relevance of each tour home to some 27 participants. The tour included an interior tour of Kitty Grave’s home at 67 Wright Street, a beautifully renovated Federal farmhouse built in 1856, and the lovely outside gardens on her well-maintained property. The tour continued with a walk down Wright Street past other period Greek Revival homes. The tour ended at the Westport Historical Society building, with refreshments generously donated by Mirabelle Cheese Shop. Here, visitors got a chance to see the exhibit “Westport Artists & their Models.” Overall, it was a lovely way to spend an afternoon, taking in the beautiful fall weather and discovering the charm and character of Westport.
