The historic Inn at Longshore, Longshore Club Park
Widely regarded as the most significant land acquisition in Westport’s history, the privately-owned, 169-acre Longshore Beach & Country Club was purchased by the town for $1.9 million and opened to the public on May 28, 1960.
The Longshore 50th Anniversary Committee is a recently formed town-appointed committee of volunteers whose mission is to collect and preserve the rich history of Longshore Club Park and present
it to the public, through special events and exhibitions, a documentary film and videotape oral histories, multimedia website and print publications.
The Committee’s first public celebration of Longshore’s golden anniversary is a 1960s-era Cocktail Dance Party, to take place at The Inn at Longshore on Thursday, May 20. To purchase tickets to this special event, simply click here.
On Memorial Day in the Little Gallery, we’re pleased to be debuting a short film documentary celebrating Longshore’s history as part of our own commemoration of Longshore’s 50th anniversary. We look forward to seeing you here on May 31! And in the meantime, to learn more about the 50th Anniversary celebrations and recent findings about Longshore’s fascinating history, please visit www.westporthistory.org/longshore50, a just-launched website hosted by the Society.
